National Mushroom Month and Oatmeal Day?

September 2, 2009 by Paul

The Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog has just released a list of “commemorations” for September that may be beneficial to Internet marketers. They list the occasion and add a suggestion as to whom that may be relevant to for marketing purposes.

Some of the highlights:

Apple Month – Farmers, grocery stores
Fall Hat Month – Hat retailers [Raspberry Beret?]
Mold Awareness Month – House cleaning businesses [You're kidding, right?]
National Chicken Month – Farmers, grocery stores
National Coupon Month – Coupon sites, retailers of all kinds
National Honey Month – Honey retailers [and Winnie the Pooh stuffed animals]
National Mushroom Month – Farmers, grocery stores
World Animal Remembrance Month – Pet cemeteries, suppliers, environmental non-profits

National Waffle Week (Sept. 6 – 12) – Restaurants, cooking stores
Line Dance Week (Sept. 14 – 19) – Country music clubs and retailers
American Massage Therapy Week (Sept. 23 – 26) – Massage therapists [Sign me up!]
Banned Books Week (Sept. 26 – Oct. 3) – Book retailers

Oatmeal Day (Sept. 4 – 5) grocery retailers
Salami Day (Sept. 6) – Delis, grocery retailers, sandwich shops
Popcorn Day (Sept. 12) – Popcorn retailers, movie theaters
Video Games Day (Sept. 12) – Video game retailers [Gamers, drop your controller long enough to applaud]
National One-Hit-Wonder Day (Sept. 25) – Music retailers

I suppose you can run specials (10% off on salami sandwiches Sunday – National Salami Day!) but really can be used for marketing. Anything different can catch the eye of a consumer.

Yahoo! comes out with a list every month, so stay tuned.

One note: it’s also Be Kind To Editors And Writers Month, so go easy with your comments below….
