How To Spot Phishing Emails

The video above shows my take after decades of experience on how to spot phishing emails including:

  • Why you shouldn’t download pictures
  • What to look for in the From section and how to find out who really sent it
  • How to spot bogus hyperlinks
  • Why you DON’T open attachments

If the email contains some personal information about you it’s now being called spearphishing, but the detective work to see if the email is bogus is the same.

If you want to dig deeper there’s a great article on the behavioral psychology of phishing from a couple of researchers at Carnegie Mellon University –
